Donkey Cart Missles and U.S. Exit Strategyposted by admin on Saturday November 22, @05:59AMfrom the axisoflogic.com dept.
Les Blough writes Axis of Logic, November 21, 2003 To view this article with graphics, please go to: IRAQ, PALESTINE AND VIET NAM The Independent (UK) reports today(1): "Two heavily-defended hotels in Baghdad, used by US officials and journalists, came under attack today from rockets launched from a donkey cart today." It appears the Iraqi Resistance Forces will continue to badger and attack the occupation forces for as long as the creative properties of the human mind can invent new methods. We all know that can be for a very long time. The U.S. genocide in Iraq has taken on the profile of the Israeli genocide in Palestine (2) - mass, indiscriminate destruction, and attacks on civilian populations in continued attempts to crush the human will and spirit. The city of Tikrit offers just one of many examples for this comparison of the U.S. and Israel wars. The U.S. has turned Tikrit into another West Bank and Gaza Strip: (3) "The entrance is guarded by soldiers, protected by sand bags, concrete barricades and a machine-gun nest. Only those people with an identification card issued by the occupation authorities are allowed in or, more importantly, out." (4) ( Read More... | 8021 bytes in body )

General Warns Iraqis Attacks Must Stop (Guardian 11/10) Bremer Sees More Iraq Attacks, Oilman ShotReuters -Mon, Nov 10, 2003
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's U.S. governor Paul Bremer predicted on Monday local and foreign fighters would step up violence to stop reconstruction, and a weekend grenade attack killed another U.S. soldier south of Baghdad. Bremer told Britain's Times newspaper U.S.-led occupation forces would not be driven out of Iraq because the price of failure was too high for the country and for the Middle East. "We're going to have increased attacks and increased terrorism because the terrorists can see the reconstruction dynamic is moving in our direction," Bremer said. Military Families Speak Out Against WarAP/Newsday -November 8, 2003, 4:14 PM EST By T.A. BADGER
SAN ANTONIO -- Families with husbands, sons and other relatives serving in Iraq gathered in drizzling weather Saturday in this military-dependent city to voice their opposition to the way in which the U.S.-led war is being handled. "This is how I show my support," said Candance Robison, whose husband, Army 1st Lt. Mike Robison, is serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fallujah, Iraq, the heart of anti-American insurgency. "If my husband got killed and I hadn't done everything I could to bring him home, I'd never forgive myself," said Robison, 27, a mother of two from the Dallas area. ...A CNN-USA Today poll released Thursday found that 54 percent of Americans disapprove of the way President Bush is handling Iraq. 2 U.S. Paratroopers Are Killed in IraqAP/ABC -November 8
Insurgents killed two U.S. paratroopers and wounded another west of Baghdad on Saturday as the U.S. military unleashed a show of force in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, rocketing buildings to rubble and dropping 500-pound bombs near the site where a Black Hawk helicopter crashed. The pre-dawn barrage came hours after the Black Hawk apparently shot down by insurgents exploded in flames in a grassy field just outside Tikrit, a hotbed of anti-American sentiment. Six Americans in the copter died, capping the bloodiest week in Iraq for U.S. forces since the fall of Baghdad. ...Meanwhile, in a setback to efforts at rebuilding in Iraq, the international Red Cross said Saturday it was temporarily closing its offices in Baghdad and the southern city of Basra because of security fears amid mounting attacks on foreigners. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage told reporters in Baghdad that the Bush administration was "sobered by the problem" of increased violence. ( Read More... )

Peacewatchers at USAFs witnessing warheads overhead ScotlandIndymedia.org.uk , fairfordpeacewatch.com -November 6
Since Saturday, people in the Highlands of Scotland have been witnessing large movements of US warplanes overhead. Experienced observers say the large numbers are reminiscent of those that preceded the bombing of Iraq in 1998 and military strikes on Libya in the1980's as well as the first Gulf War. At the weekend warplanes were flying over at a rate of roughly one every 15 minutes. As well as watching them from the ground the plane spotters have also been able to overhear pilots talking by listening to their radio frequencies. At this rate some 288 warplanes would have passed over Scotland in three days. ( Read More... | 792 bytes in body )

His Name Was Evan Ashcraftposted by admin on Tuesday November 04, @04:01PMfrom the truthout.org dept.
t r u t h o u t | Report Wednesday 5 November 2003 (Editor's Note | I have received several responses to my last essay, Assassin's History. One, in particular, struck me to stillness. It was from a woman named Jane Bright, who lost her son in Iraq. His name was Evan Ashcraft, he was 24 years old, and attached to Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, of the 101st Airborne Division out of Kentucky. He was killed on July 24 when his convoy came under enemy fire north of Hawd, Iraq. This is what his mother gave me. She is correct. We have had so much stolen from us with the unnecessary deaths of these fine young men and women. My heart breaks for her, and for all of the families of the lost. If you are against this war, and yet are tired and discouraged, read of Evan Ashcraft and a life that should have been, and then get back to work.) - William Rivers Pitt http://web.archive.org/web/20031203123101/http://truthout.org/docs_03/110503A.shtml( Read More... )
